Context
Why concentration is worth checking twice
A lyophilised vial carries a mass, not a volume. The concentration of the reconstituted solution is entirely determined by how much diluent is added, which means two laboratories working from identical vials can end up with solutions that differ by an order of magnitude.
The mass on the label is also a claim, not a measurement. If a vial assays below its claimed purity, the mass of compound in solution is lower than this calculator’s output implies — the arithmetic here takes the label at face value. That gap is what the cost-per-verified-milligram calculator and the verified batch registry exist to measure.
Questions
About this calculator
- What does this calculator actually compute?
- Three things: the concentration in mg/mL after a given volume of diluent is added to a given mass of lyophilised solute, the same concentration expressed in µg/mL, and the volume of that solution which contains a mass you specify. It is arithmetic on units, nothing more.
- What is a U-100 unit?
- A U-100 graduated syringe is marked so that 100 graduations correspond to 1 mL. The units figure is simply the volume in millilitres multiplied by one hundred, provided as a reading aid for the graduations on that scale.
- Does VialPost recommend a quantity?
- No. VialPost publishes no dosing, protocol or administration guidance of any kind, for any compound. All compounds referenced on this site are discussed for laboratory research use only, and nothing here is medical advice.
- Does the calculator send my inputs anywhere?
- No. It runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted to VialPost or to anyone else, and nothing is stored.
